Co-founder & Chief Scientist
Bernal Cortés,
PharmD, MSc
Bernal Cortés is one of our driving forcse at Labot de Costa Rica, with over 20 years of experience in biobanking and laboratory research. He established and directed the first NCI-sponsored biobank in Latin America and has been at the forefront of setting up high-tech laboratories, including a Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) facility.
With a strong foundation in Chemical Engineering and advanced training in automation, open-source electronics, and technology transfer, Bernal is uniquely skilled in bridging the gap between engineering and life sciences. His leadership has been key to aligning teams of scientists and engineers to develop real-world solutions that meet the complex needs of biobanks and laboratories.
As the creator of DanyBot, a modular robot designed to optimize laboratory processes, Bernal is passionate about using technology to make research more efficient and accessible. His global experience in training and consulting has given him valuable insights into the operational challenges faced by labs worldwide, and his work continues to drive innovation in the field.

Randall Loaiza Montoya
Ph.D., PharmD
Randall Loaiza Montoya is an accomplished pharmacist and researcher with a Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With extensive experience in strategic management of R&D laboratories, he has dedicated his career to driving innovation and entrepreneurship in biotechnology.
As the Director of CENIBiot, Costa Rica's national biotechnology center, Randall has successfully led multidisciplinary teams, established strategic alliances, and managed high-impact projects that foster scientific advancement and financial sustainability. His efforts include founding the first AAALAC-certified animal facility in Costa Rica and promoting international collaborations that enhance the country’s research capabilities and technological innovation.
Randall's expertise in physiology, cardiology, and pharmacology, combined with his advanced training in innovation and entrepreneurship, enables him to identify growth opportunities and develop cutting-edge solutions in the life sciences. He is particularly passionate about leveraging his skills to create impactful research initiatives that address real-world challenges, making him a vital asset to Labot and DanyBot.
